Still the best

I've been using Diamond Finish for a long time to clear coat my fishing lures. I have found it is much clearer than other types/brands. It also doesn't seem to bubble as much as the others. I will keep on using it.

Crazy Amazing Diamond Finish Clear

Clear Diamond Finish is amazing! Great product. It's important to read and follow all the documentation that KBS provides with the product package. The information will truly help keep you from getting frustrated. I found that laying a single, small piece of wax paper on top of can prior to closing the lid will help prevent the lid from sticking to can. Do not double the wax paper because the lid will not stay closed. The lid closes and will stay closed using one single, small piece. The plastic wrap was too thin to work with for me; however, I tried it first. Per the instructions, always make sure the top of can groove for the lid is clean from any drips or drops of Diamond Finish prior to closing lid. I don't recommend using a cheap brush. A good quality, soft, medium to thick brush worked well for me. These types of brushes allowed the product to spread evenly and easily without seeing brush strokes on items; it's worth it. I had to practice a couple of times applying the correct amount of "product and brush pressure" to achieve a beautiful result. The technology technicians provided excellent customer support and answered every one of my questions. They were extremely helpful and professional. That's hard to experience this day in time. The Diamond Finish is a little pricey. I'd purchase more if it was a bit lower. I love the smaller cans. They are much easier for me to work with. My only recommendation is to allow customers to purchase several 4 oz cans for a lot less cost. The product is excellent.

disappointed

directions for use is confusing for non pros. I used high quality foam roller and followed direction I think to the letter. It bubbled really bad. Sanded off, and tried to spray it on with quality gun. Even after recommended thinning it was not going on evenly. I went back to roller. no bubbles but very hard to get on evenly. I went slow and did not over work it as instructions say, but hard to get it spread well and not roll it to a certain point. after getting roller loaded it goes on thick to start then gets thinner as product goes on. Then heavy after reloading roller. Not supposed to over roll it so getting it even is hard. Ended with very orange peel effect, and weak spots. I would just use paint store clear coat in future. places where I used a high quality brush to do tight spots came out great. super smooth and clear. Customer service did respond by phone, and gave me some pointers for second try so no complaints there. I have done several boats and cars in past so not a newbie at how to do this, so I would say if your not a pro it is very hard to get a good result. Their video is very short and and does not show doing large sections or what it looks like after it cures.

Amazing

I was a little worried at first using the KBS Diamond Finish as I was applying it to wood. I contacted the company and after a very pleasant conversation and a few laughs I was comfortable. I have used the KBS Rust Seal and the Top Coat in the past and have been a be promoter of the brand. For this project I wanted to continue to support the company but didn't want to mess up the outcome as I spend many hours working on it. Now that it is finished I am a big believer in the KBS company. I can't thank them enough. The Diamond Finish out did it's self. This product was easy to apply and finished my project off completely. I would recommend this product time and time again as well as the business.

Awesome!

I was using UV clear coat on all my custom painted lures but ran into a problem and the finished product was not what I wanted. The UV was leaving bumps along the side of the lures. The company gave no solution to my problem so I decided to try KBS. All I can say is this stuff is awesome! The finish on the lures is like glass and I very pleased. Yes, it does take longer to dry but it's worth the results you will receive.

A unique use case - public art sculpture

I reached out to KBS Support before ordering Clear Diamond Finish as I had some questions about my specific project. They responded quickly and thoroughly which was great. I ordered a quart and it shipped up and arrived in a few days, which was also great. Given that I was applying this to a fiberglass sculpture of a duck (for an outdoor public art event) I was not using for the traditional purpose - and have not done this before. I have to say this was the trickiest part of this process - as trying not to go back and brush/roll over areas on an object with so many curves and continual surfaces was tricky. (Spraying it might have been better for this project, but I did not have the equipment or safe area to do it that way). After two coats were applied, I ended up letting it dry for a little over 24 hours and then sanded it down some to smooth out areas where I had brush marks showing up. Then I applied two more coats, for a total of 4. And that left me with just a little bit of the quart left over when I was finished. I allowed it to fully cure for over a week - and then moved forward with adhering over 30,000 rhinestones onto the sculpture. For the beak/wings I sanded the clear coat finish (per the KBS teams suggestion) so the adhesive had something to grip onto. For areas like the fireworks - I used a Dremel bit and hand "scuffed/scratched" the surface under anywhere a stone was placed to give it some chance of gripping on as well. Fire Quackers as I titled it, goes on display in May 2021 - Sept. So fingers crossed it holds up well with weather and public interaction.

Great product and great tech help

Excellent product. Sprayed well reducing at 20% even then it had fantastic coverage. I got 4 full coats for a total of 200 sq feet out of two quarts. Extremely clear and cures very well. Does run if not paying attention but very easy to scrape with razor blade once it sets up. Doesn't run as easy as other clears. Very forgiving clear coat. I love it and my buddy wants me to spray his boat after seeing mine. I would rate a 5 but price made me go 4 stars.

Efficient way to top coat

I deep the lures into KBS very slowly, i rotate then a bit to release micro bubbles, and i take them out slowly. I only coat once. The level of gloss is perfect. The coating and self levelling is also very good. Sometimes i still get micro bubble but, unlike with epoxy, i cannot pop them with heat. So far, i have not fished yet the lures coated with KBS, so i do not know if the coating is as tough as epoxy.

Q: Can diamond finish clear be used over rust seal? I'm looking to use rust seal as a color base coat on some automotive components (steering rack, transmission, differential...etc) and use clear to provide the UV protective layer/topcoat

Asked by: Carlton Brown - 10/28/2013

A: We do not recommend putting DiamondFinish Clear over RustSeal because although DiamondFinish Clear is absolutely UV stable, DiamondFinish Clear does not block the UV rays from getting through to the RustSeal. Over an extended period of time, DiamondFinish Clear can delaminate from RustSeal when exposed to prolonged sunlight.

We always recommend a solid color UV stable top coat paint (such as BlackTop or KBS Maxx) over RustSeal if RustSeal will be exposed to sunlight.

Q: What is the best way to store this after you open the can? Is this a moisture cured urethane

Asked by: Jon - 7/14/2014

A: Here is what we recommend:

Dispense a working amount of DiamondFinish Clear into a separate container (steel or glass is best) and seal original can immediately. Keep can groove free of paint by using a scoop or KBS Paint Spout. Use plastic wrap between the lid and the top of the can to stop metal to metal contact as DiamondFinish Clear can permanently seal the lid. Unused paint should NEVER be put back into the can as it will shorten can shelf life and cause pressure build-up possibly popping the lid. If there is any trouble resealing the can lid tightly, transfer and store DiamondFinish Clear in a proportionally sized clean glass jar or new paint can. Always store in a cool dry place.
